About the Artist
Throughout my artistic career, spanning from using crayons on the bathroom walls to painting weddings en plein air, I’ve experimented with a wide breadth of subject matter and mediums — but no matter what, I always gravitate back to portraiture.
I began my journey in portraiture in high school unintentionally; a byproduct of COVID-19 restrictions and desperation for human connection. As my high school shut down and my once-buzzing social life ground to a halt, I pushed myself from experimental studies in mixed media landscapes (which were admittedly pretty horrible) to painting the faces of the people I missed seeing beneath our masks. I dove in to my mom’s technical books on building form, creating drama with chiaroscuro, using color and different mediums to evoke different moods, building successful compositions, and then failed. Repeatedly. Until I didn't.
Through a LOT of practice and experimentation, I’ve settled into a rhythm of telling stories through color and light, tailoring each of my pieces to create a likeness that goes beyond just a reflection of features. Even in my still lifes and landscapes, I strive to evoke a feeling of familiarity, pulling from my senses to bring a vivid memory out of my subject matter. Sometimes I miss the mark. But with every painting, I learn more and get just a little bit better.
